COHORT GRADING

How do you grade an entire cohort at once?

Lectora drafts a score and a reason for every submission in a cohort, grounded in your rubric and course material. You review the drafts, edit where needed, and approve what is posted under your own Canvas identity.

What does Lectora draft in a cohort run?

Lectora reads the selected submissions against your rubric, examiner's guide and course material. It drafts a score, a reason and written feedback for each submission. The rubric governs the assessment; learning goals govern question drafting and assessment coverage.

The drafts stay available for review beside the submissions. You can inspect the proposed score and feedback, check them against the student's work, and edit before publishing.

How does the cohort overview help with review?

The assignment's cohort overview shows completion and the distribution of internal performance scores. It gives you a view of the drafting run while the individual submission remains the place to judge whether the draft is sound.

A low performance score is not a measure of model uncertainty. The overview does not identify a group whose review can stand in for the rest of the cohort. Each grade still needs a qualified examiner's approval.

What changes the pace of the work?

The cohort can have a draft ready before you open its first submission. That changes where the work starts: you review a proposed score and its reasoning instead of starting from an empty page.

The published validation does not measure runtime or time saved in review. It establishes score agreement on long-form written exams, not a promise that a cohort will finish in a particular number of minutes or that review can be reduced to spot checks.

Who controls the final grades?

A qualified examiner does. You can edit the proposed score and feedback, then choose what to publish. Grades and comments reach Canvas as your own action, under your own Canvas identity.

On long-form written exams, twelve MED12 sittings at the University of Bergen and 889 candidate-exam pairs, Lectora's draft agreed with the course teacher at R² 0.85, while two human examiners agreed with each other at R² 0.64. That result does not establish feedback quality or remove the need for examiner review. The validation pages also report the independent study whose findings went against Lectora.

Yes. You select the submissions to include, and Lectora drafts scores and feedback against the same rubric and course material. The drafting run does not publish the results.
