Google Drive
At institutions on Google Workspace for Education, lecture notes, slides and assignment briefs tend to live in Google Drive rather than the LMS. The route in, if built, would be the Drive API, scoped to a folder rather than the whole Drive, through Google's own narrower `drive.file` permission. A Google Doc, Slide or Sheet is not stored as a flat file the way a PDF is, so reading one means exporting it first; that is a real difference this page keeps separate from the uploaded-PDF case. None of it is built yet.

- There is no Google Drive connection of any kind: no OAuth consent, no folder scoping, no sign-in.
- Google Docs, Slides and Sheets would need exporting on the way in, through the Drive API's own export step, and how well headings and tables survive that has not been tested. An uploaded PDF would not need this step.
How it connects
The route in would be the Drive API v3. Google's own guidance steers apps toward the narrower `drive.file` scope, bounded to files or folders a user explicitly selects through Google's file picker, rather than the broader `drive.readonly` scope that would see everything in the account. A folder chosen this way would behave the way Lectora already treats other course material, with one real difference: a Google Doc, Slide or Sheet is not a flat file, so reading its content means calling the Drive API's export endpoint to convert it first, while an uploaded PDF already arrives in the shape Lectora's OCR pipeline reads today. Nothing of this is registered yet: no OAuth consent, no folder chosen, no export path built.
Data and access
Lectora reads only what the assessment needs, and writes nothing back until an educator approves it. The Canvas access page documents the full scope, and our privacy policy, subprocessors and DPA cover the legal side.
Common questions
drive.file scope is bounded to what a user picks explicitly, not the account's entire Drive, and that narrower scope is the one this would use. Nothing is built yet to confirm that in practice.drive.file scope this would use is a per-user OAuth consent a teacher could in principle grant themselves, but institutions on Google Workspace for Education commonly restrict which apps can request any Drive scope at all, so your admin may need to allow the app first.
